It provided for action if lawyers is found tampering with court records, apart from browbeat or abuse judges.
On May 25 vide a notification by HC of Madras it applied the above disciplinary powers tn Courts in Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu lawyers had rallied in Chennai City to resist and register their protest against a new set of disciplinary rules framed by the Madras High Court a week ago.
Now lawyers from subordinate courts across the state have announced further protest by way of boycott of court proceedings until June 17. They are demanding withdrawal of the HC notification.
The notification warns of action in case of protests inside courtrooms or rallies in court premises.
Disciplinary rules were needed as State saw intense agitation early last year, in which advocates succeded to make the court succumb to pressure and stop proceedings.
Some lawyers had even asked the Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul to return to his home state, Jammu and Kashmir while protesters had gheroed to his bench and residence the HC had to order deployment of CISF personnel on court premises.
Lawyers of both HC and subordinate courts say that the new norms would curb free performance of lawyers in court.
The HC has said that it is open to hear suggestions as there were yearlong deliberations and discussions before the notification was issued last month.
