UIDAI in its response to the RTI query added that it took note of Breach and got data removed from those websites.
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has stated that,”More than 200 Central and State Govt. websites publicly displayed the details such as the names and the addresses of some Aadhaar beneficiaries”.
However, Authority did not specify when exactly the breach took place.
UIDAI further stated that Aadhaar details have never been made public from or by UIDAI.
The RTI response states that,”It was found that approximately 210 websites of the Central Govt, State Govt. Departments including Educational institutes were displaying list of the beneficiaries along with their name, address, the other details and the Aadhaar numbers for information of the general public”.
UIDAI issues the Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identification number which acts as a proof of identity and the address anywhere in India.
Central Govt. is in process of making the Aadhaar mandatory for the people to avail benefits of the various social service schemes.
Authority in its RTI reply states that,”UIDAI has a well-designed, multi-layer approach robust security system in place and same is being constantly upgraded to maintain the highest level of the data security and integrity”.
Reply states that,”Architecture of Aadhaar Ecosystem has been designed to ensure that the data security and privacy which is an integral part of system from initial design to final stage”.
