Bombay HC: In which other country do you see threats being made to the Artistes? A film cannot be released in this country. What have we come to?

December 8,2017:

High Court shocked on the the statements being made regarding killing the Aristes stated that, “Today somebody says, ‘I will give a reward if you get a performer, artiste, actress killed’… Even the Chief Ministers are saying they will not allow release of film in their States, this is a censorship of a different kind. If this is happening to the people with the financial strength and backing, what about poor people?”.

On Thursday, Bombay HC  pointed out that where was the country was headed while taking into consideration into the open threats made to stall the release of film “Padmavati” and announcement of a reward to “kill” its lead actress Deepika Padukone.

HC Bench comprising of Justice S C Dharmadhikari and Justice Bharati Dangre stated that,”In which other country do you see threats made to the artistes and the performers? It is distressing to know a person makes a feature film and several others who have worked tirelessly towards it but are unable to release film for the public viewing because of the continuous threats… A feature film cannot be released in this country. What have we come to?”.

Bombay High Court’s remarks were made while it rapped CBI and State CID for their failure to trace absconding killers of the rationalists Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare despite being given time to crack the cases.

Bombay High Court was hearing thte pleas by their families to monitor the investigations into murders. HC rapped investigating bodies that,”Crime is committed in 2013 (Dhabolkar) and 2015 (Pansare) and you are still finding the killers?”

Justice S C Dharmadhikari further added that,”In other parts of World, a truck with weapons drives into the people. In less than 24 hours, the accused person is caught dead or alive, identified, a role is attributed and whole country is alerted. They take it as an affront to nation. We have not learned anything from attack on Parliament and on Prime Minister”.
