March,6,2017:
Complainant accused Kejriwal of defaming him by levelling false allegations in the wake of demonetisation.
CM Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned as an accused by a Metropolitan Magistrate’s court in a criminal defamation complaint filed by the Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra.
Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria said that clearly there’s sufficient material on the record to summon accused Kejriwal for the offence punishable under the section 500 (defamation) of IPC.
Subhash Chandra, had on November 17, last year, sought prosecution of Delhi CM for allegedly defaming him by leveling false allegations in the wake of demonetization.
In his plea, Chandra, chairman of the Essel group, had alleged that Kejriwal, while addressing a press conference had made “fabricated, false & defamatory allegations” against him.
The complaint, filed through advocate, claimed that Kejriwal’s defamatory statements caused serious harm to his reputation by imputing behaviour incompatible with proper conduct & suggestions of involvement in illegal activity.
