Drinking in open in Goa can now lead to Arrest and land you in Jail

Incidents of menace by tourists consuming liquor on the beach at the night time led to this decision.

Consuming alcohol in the public places in Goa can now land you in jail. Police in tourist state have asked its personnel to arrest the people who are found drinking in public places.

Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Karthik Kashyap stated that he has given instructions to arrest people found drinking in open under Section 34,Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The instructions were given after a meeting between members of general public, representatives from tourism sector and police at the Calangute Police Station.

The meeting was attended by around 60-70 people, including beach shack owners and the people in the tourism trade.

Gathering highlighted menace of the tourists consuming liquor on beach at the night time.
