Election Commission bans Former CM Madhu Koda from contesting elections for 3 years

Madhu Koda, was elected as independent MP in the year 2009, had been facing charges of furnishing the false election expenditure records after 2009 polls.

On Wednesday, Election Commission disqualified the Former Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda from contesting the elections for a period of three years for failing to file details of expenses related to the 2009 Lok Sabha polls he fought.

Case pertains to the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, in which he won from Singhbhum Lok Sabha seat in Jharkhand.

The order was signed by the Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti and the Election Commissioner OP Rawat, stated that Koda,“stands disqualified for period of three years” from today for “failing to lodge his account of the election expenses in manner required by law and for having no good reason or justification for such failure”.

Although the Former CM Koda had moved Delhi HC questioning EC’s jurisdiction, High Court gave EC a go ahead to proceed against the him.
