September 28,2017:
It is perceived to be a case of the Political persecution as Justice Patel had refered Ishrat Jahan encounter case to the CBI.
Several lawyers of Gujarat HC have today abstained from work as part of a one-day strike to protest against reported transfer of Justice Jayant Patel of Karnataka High Court.
Justice Patel had resigned on Monday without citing any reasons.
Resignation came amid the reports that SC Collegium had decided to transfer him to Allahabad HC.
He was reportedly unhappy over not being made Chief Justice of any court despite his seniority.
Call for strike was given by Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association.
Only a limited number of the cases were heard as the Advocates nearly 1,500 are members of Association–stayed away from work.
Advocates formed a human chain outside HC to mark their protest.
Patel was Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court before being shifted to the Karnataka High Court in February 2016.
