Calcutta High Court’s Justice CS Karnan will become first judge of a High Court to retire while facing arrest and absconding.

Justice Karnan has been absconding since May 9,2017 when Apex Courts’ Seven-Judge Bench passed an unprecedented arrest order against Justice Karnan.
Supreme Court ordered his arrest after he was convicted in Contempt of court case by SC; he was awarded a six-month sentence.
Justice CS Karnan become first sitting High Court judge to be convicted for Contempt of Court.
Justice Karnan was born on June 12, 1955. In March 2009, he was appointed as the Madras High Court Judge. He was later transferred to West Bengal in 2016 by Supreme Court.
Justice Karnan will not receive any formal farewell and thus will not get a chance to give his farewell speech at High Court. Therefore, he will hold the dubious distinction of becoming First High Court judge to miss out on his farewell.
