Triple Talaq is banned in as many as 22 Muslim majority conditions including Pakistan.
Modi government has planned to bring a legislation to permanently banned triple Talaq in this winter session of the Parliament.
The new law will provide a Framework so that Muslim men can be prosecuted for using triple Talaq for divorce.
In a decision arrived at recently, a ministerial panel has been formed which will take a final call on bringing a new law or to amend the legal provisions existing today.
Triple Talaq or Talaq e biddat means when a Muslim man divorces his wife by repeating the word Talaq 3 times in one go.
Recently Talaqs were given over email, over phones and even over WhatsApp messages.
Recently in the month of August apex court has struck down the custom of triple Talaq as an arbitrary and unconstitutional practice.
Even though triple Talaq was banned by the supreme court, complaints about Muslim men using triple Talaq for divorcing kept pouring in.
Supreme Court has ruled that the practice of triple Talaq is not only against Islam but it also violated gender equality and fundamental rights of women.
The practice of the triple Talaq is banned in as many as 22 Muslim majority conditions including Pakistan and Middle East country of Saudi Arabia.
