Senior Advocate Sanjay Hegde appearing on behalf of the Petitiioer submitted that,“Why is there no response from Centre or States?”.
On Friday, Central Government has submitted before the Supreme Court that,”Ending the vigilantism and violence by cow protection groups or the ”gau rakshaks” is State subject and Centre has no role to play though it condemns all the forms of the vigilantism.
Neither Centre nor have the States such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra filed any written response to Apex Court’s repeated orders to them do so to a bunch of the petitions led by Shehzeen Poonawalla seeking criminal action against the Cow Vigilante Groups whose recent rampages and lynchings saw rise in the communal tensions in country.
Petitions soughts a direction to Central and the State Governments to pull down all videos of violence uploaded by the Cow Vigilante Groups from the social media sites.
Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar stated that, “It is a State subject. Union of India has no role to play”.
Apex Court has granted Centre and the States four weeks to file their affidavits in reply to Petitions.
