A statement from academics and thinkers has questioned Centre’s ‘sudden found’ love for Muslim Women
Muslim artists, intellectuals, writers and poets and various other groups have issued a statement while laying down emphasis on the diversity within Muslim community in India and has rejected the validation of the triple talaq.
But at the same time, the groups have also expressed their distrust towards the Central Government on the Law Commission’s consultation over the Uniform Civil Code.
The signatories to this statement include academicians like Prof. S. Irfan Habib, Prof. Ayesha Kidwai,Prof. Zoya Hasan, Dr. Gauhar Raza, who is also a poet and filmmaker and Activist Shabnam Hashmi.
It disapproves the affidavit which was filed by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) in the Supreme Court on the validity of triple talaq.
However the statement expresses that the community has no faith in the new-found ‘love for women’ and ‘gender justice’ as articulated by the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkiah Naidu recently.
“In the new regime we have already seen heavy budget cuts in the schemes for women, we have heard horrendous statements about the women, which have gone unopposed by the members of the regime, and we have also witnessed growing violence against the women as well as dilution of gender just laws like the Domestic Violence Act (Section 498A).
