November 14,2017:
NGT Bench expounded that,“You should sprinkle water using the helicopters or at least from a height, from the multi-storey buildings and not spray water on trees. If you sprinkle the water on trees, pollutants will get attached to trees and kill the plants”.
On Tuesday, Delhi Government withdrew the review petition that it had filed before National Green Tribunal (NGT) with respect to exempting the two-wheelers and the women drivers from odd-even car rationing scheme.
The Tribunal directed AA{ led Delhi Government to provide “one scientific reason” as to why the two-wheelers should be exempted from scheme considering that both Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) had submitted that the two-wheelers contribute a major portion of vehicular pollution.
NGT Bench which is headed by NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar further directed Government to select one highly polluted area in city by 4 p.m. on Tuesday and start sprinkling water using the “proper techniques” to reduce pollutants present in ambient air quality.
NGT while dismissing the petition, gave Delhi Govt. the ‘liberty to file a fresh application’.
