On Wednesday, a Session’s Court in Kolkata has condemned the Bangladeshi national convicted in Ranaghat Nun Rape case to imprisonment till the death and has awarded 10 years in jail to the five other accused.

On Tuesday, the Court had pronounced Nazrul Islam alias Noju guilty of raping a 71-year-old nun at a Convent in Nadia’s Ranaghat in March, 2015.

Sessions Court has convicted Islam for robbery and criminal conspiracy with four others and a sixth person was held guilty of harbouring them.

In early hours of March 14, 2015, six accused had forced their way into Missionary School in Ranaghat, more than 80 km from Kolkata. Where they then climbed to building’s first floor and took whatever valuables they could find. Islam locked 71-year-old nun in a room and then raped her when she tried to resist looting.

Nun needed surgery after the brutal attack, which had sparked an outpour of anger at the persistent high levels of the sexual assault in India.
