On Friday, Pakistan’s Supreme Court found the Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif guilty in Panama Papers case and has unanimously disqualified him as the PM in a unanimous verdict.

Pakistan SC has also ordered a case be filed against PM Sharif.

Under the Article 190 of Constitution of Pakistan, it is President’s prerogative to decide whether a sitting prime minister should be asked to step down or not.

In its decision, Pakistan Supreme Court has specifically asked President to “ensure a smooth transition for democratic process.”

Pakistan’s Attorney General Ausaf stated that,”Nawaz Sharif has been disqualified for life”.

This is third time Sharif has been unable to complete his term in Chief Executive’s Office. It is however unclear as to who will be appointed to take over as the Pakistan’s PM. Next General Elections are scheduled for 2018.

Apex Court’s Five Judge Bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa expounded the decision and ordered a fresh investigation into Sharif family’s wealth by National Accountability Bureau.

Six-Member Joint Investigation team formed by Supreme Court, after its two-month investigation, had declared Sharif’s family’s wealth was far above their earnings.
