On Tuesday, Supreme Court rejected interim bail plea of the self-styled religious figure Asaram Bapu, who is facing trial in rape cases, on health grounds. Apex Court has asked him to get his treatment done in Rajasthan in judicial custody itself.
Supreme Court Bench comprising of Justices A K Sikri and Justice N V Ramana enunciated that.”If Asaram wants to undergo treatment, he can get the diagnosis done at AIIMS, Jodhpur or at Rajasthan Ayurvedic Hospital while staying in the judicial custody.
Apex Court’s direction have come after Asaram Bapu stated that he wanted to undergo ayurvedic treatment in Delhi for which he needed one month’s interim bail.
Counsel appearing on behalf of Rajasthan Government submitted that the State Government was ready to provide all the possible treatment to Asaram Bapu at the hospitals in the state.
The bench, however, clarified that Asaram’s supporters should not be allowed in the hospital and none of his followers should meet him.
Apex Court stated that it would hear the plea for regular bail of Asaram Bapu in November.
Jodhpur Police had arrested Asaram Bapu on August 31, 2013 and thus has been in jail since then. On August 9, High Court of Rajasthan had also rejected his bail application in the rape case of a teenage girl at his in Manai Village near Jodhpur.
