SC agrees to examine the reasons behind Farmers’ Suicides, notice issued to Centre, States and RBI

Bench refered it to be a “sensitive matter” of larger public interest.

On Friday, Supreme Court has sought responses from Centre, State Governments, Union Territory and RBI to examine the likely reasons behind suicides by farmers.

Apex Court Bench comprising of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice N V Ramana asked them to respond within four weeks.

Supreme Court further added  that it is a “sensitive matter” of larger public interest involving the farmers throughout country.

Apex Court was hearing a plea filed by the NGO Citizens Resource and Action and Initiative on issues related to the farmers.
