July 23,2017:
According to the Reports, Collegium headed by the Chief Justice JS Khehar has relented to Centre’s proposal to reconsider decision to transfer Justice Mehta out of Delhi High Court.
Delhi High Court Judge, Justice Valmiki Mehta will not be transferred to the Andhra Pradesh & Telangana High Court.
Recommendation to transfer Justice Valmiki Mehta was taken by Collegium headed by the Former Chief Justice of India, Justice TS Thakur in March 2016.
Centre had refused to process file for quite some time resulting in some strong observations by Justice Thakur during hearing of a case concerning judicial appointments.
Justice Thakur had even threatened to withdraw the judicial work from Justice Mehta and Judge, Justice MR Shah.
Centre had subsequently, sent transfer files of two judges back to Collegium for reconsideration.
Thus Collegium has now taken a decision on one of these two files.
The Transfer of another judge, Justice KM Joseph of the Uttarakhand High Court, is also pending with Central Government for more than a year now.
