November 10,2017:
Apex Court stated that it could not intervene since Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was yet to decide about its certification.
Supreme Court has refused a plea seeking to ban release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ which is an epic drama featuring Deepika Padukone as a Rajput Queen.
“Padmavati” which also stars Shahid Kapoor as Rawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as invader Alauddin Khilji, is set for release on December 1, 2017.
Movie has been a subject of many controversies like some Hindu groups and the political parties, including Congress and BJP, claiming that film distorts history and wrongly portrays Padmavati, a contention Sanjay Leela Bhansali has rebuffed in a recently released online video.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming magnum opus ‘Padmavati’ has been grabbing the headlines since the time of its announcement.
Right from disruption of the shooting to vandalising sets, Karni Sena of Rajasthan has been going out and about to ensure that ‘Padmavati’ doesn’t see the light of the day.
According to the Reports, Kshatriya Community leaders from BJP have apparently written to Chief Election Commissioner demanding stalling of ‘Padmavati’ release ahead of the Gujarat elections.
