Review Petition was moved by Advocate ML Sharma on behalf of Mukesh, who is one of four convicts sentenced to death in barbaric December 16 Gangrape and Murder case.
On Monday, Supreme Court will hear review petition filed by one of the convicts in Nirbhaya Gangrape case.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) had recently issued a notice to the Tihar Jail Administration and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South District, questioning delay in execution of the death penalty to convicts in the case.
In a complaint to DCW, victim’s mother Asha Devi had questioned that even after five months of Apex Court’s verdict, accused have not been hanged.
In May,2017 , SC’s Bench, headed by Justice Dipak Misra and consisting of Justice R Banumathi and Justice Ashok Bhushan, had upheld HC’s order of the death sentence to four convicts – Akshay, Pawan, Vinay Sharma and Mukesh.
On December 16, 2012, the six convicts had gangraped a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern in a moving bus. Woman then succumbed to her injuries in a Singapore Hospital on December 29, 2012.
One of the accused, Ram Singh had hanged himself in the prison, while another person, who was a juvenile at time of the crime, was convicted in August,2017 and will serve maximum sentence of three years in a reform home.
