The lead petition in Tripple Talaq is titled “Quest for Equality vs Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.
A unique combination of five Apex Court judges belonging to five different religions will start hearing final arguments on constitutional validity of triple talaq from Thursday onwards, i.e. the 1st day of the Supreme Court’s Summer Vacation.
Being an extremely sensitive issue, the lead petition has been aptly titled as “Quest for Equality v/s Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind”.
The case will be heard by 5 judges from 5 different communities — CJI JS Khehar (Sikh), Justice Kurian Joseph (Christian), Justice R F Nariman (Parsi), Justice U U Lalit (Hindu) and Justice Abdul Nazeer (Muslim).
However, it needs to be mentioned that a judge decides a case only on the consideration of the merit & absolutely nothing else.
Tagged with this case are 6 petitions by Khuran Sunnath Society, Aafreen Rehman, Shayara Bano, Gulshan Parveen, Atiya Sabri and Ishrat Jahan.
