On Thursday, Goa Court will frame charges against the Journalist Tarun Tejpal who was accused of Rape a by a junior colleague four years ago.
On Tuesday, Bombay HC had rejected 54-year-old journalist’s plea to put on hold framing of the charges till it decided a petition to drop all the charges against him.
Former Founder-Editor of Tehelka was accused by a colleague of sexually assaulting her in an elevator of a five-star hotel during Magazine’s THiNK 2013 festival in Goa in November 2013.
Mapusa Court situated in Goa had on September 7,2017 refused to drop the charges against Tejpal.
Thus he is likely to be tried for rape, sexual harassment, assault and wrongful restraint. If found guilty, he is likely to face imprisonment for 10 years in jail.
He has been charged under Sections 376(2)F and 376(2)K, Indian Penal Code, among the others. These stringent provisions, introduced after 2012 Nirbhaya Rape and murder case state that a person who is in a position of power and trust faces a maximum of life imprisonment for the rape.
