Union Cabinet has approved Appointment of Second National Judicial Pay Commission for Subordinate Judiciary

Commission will decide on a salary hike for almost 21,000 judges of Subordinate Judiciary level.

Pay hike for Subordinate Court Judges

Union Cabinet which is  chaired by PM Narendra Modi has approved appointment of the Second National Judicial Pay Commission for the subordinate judiciary.

Commission is to be headed by Retired Justice of SC, Justice J.P.Venkatrama Reddi. and Justice R. Basant, Former judge of Kerala HC who is also a member of Commission.

Judges and thte judicial officers of the Subordinate Courts got their last pay hike in the year 2010 which was a three-fold jump, from salaries decided in 1999.

Current entry-level salary for a junior civil judge is Rs 45,000 while for a Senior Judge it is almost Rs 80,000.

Commission will make its recommendations to State Govt’s preferably within a period of eighteen months. Recommendations are likely to be given retrospective effect once submitted and put into the effect.

The Commission will aim at arriving at a Uniform Pay Scale for service of the judicial officers of subordinate judiciary throughout the country.
